The Midburn Art Accelerator is a program similar to tech accelerators, helping artists of all background to create installations for Midburn.
It provides a framework, meeting place, and opportunity to join a process for anyone planning on making art installations for Midburn, whether they have done so before or this is their first time. It is loosely based on startup accelerators, giving access to content specialists, connections in the art, technology, & production spheres, and practical information for the teams.
The accelerator consists of series of seminars which include lectures, work with other artists in the program, and individual/team work with the support of content experts in various fields, such as concept development, engineering, fund raising, programming, etc. In addition to these day long seminars, there is a series of lectures open to the general public on specific topics relevant to installation art but not necessary for every project. Lectures include topics such as sound design for installations, controlled fire installations, etc.
Teams that joins the program are paired with experienced artists who can help and advise teams during the program and outside of it on a personal level.
I proposed this program in 2014, creating the syllabus and finding content experts from the community for support and lectures. With the support of the Miburn Art Department, the first class had 20 projects participating and becoming a reality. The next accelerator will begin January 2015.
