The Ships and the Sea is an immersive technological, scientific and cultural exhibition introducing visitors to the experience of maritime life designed for Madatech, the Israel National Museum of Science and Technology.
Built upon the foundation of traveling exhibits from Heureka, the Finnish Science Center, the exhibition carries the visitor on a journey from being lost at sea to home in Haifa, traveling below the waves, on deck, through Haifa Port. Along the way, visitors learn valuable skills necessary for survival at sea, from how to tie knots to how to operate a loading crane.
The exhibition uses a combination of approaches targeted at various age levels to inspire and entice: mechanical exhibits, virtual simulations, enveloping tactile sets, visual infographics, and auditory soundscapes. By balancing the various elements, a multisensory experience is insured for all, guaranteeing the ideas and concepts presented along the way will stay with visitors long after they have gone.
