Conversation cloud is an interactive design project that creates a visual representation of discourse in a public space. Words spoken within the project area are transformed into a animated word cloud that is projected live on the floor. This creates meaningful “real world” public discourse that invites others to join and participate in an increasingly digital age.
The project has two components: listening benches and a projection post. The benches define the active conversation area and are equiped with condenser microphones to acurately distinguish spoken words in the area. The post represents a recognizable icon and enables the neccessary height for the laser projection system.
By combining distruptive technologies it is possible to analyze spoken word, create real time animation and project it into a public space in a safe manner in diffrent lighting conditions. The video demostrates the text to word animation alogrithem developed in cooperation with Michael Mageric.
The project is a second place winner in the Tel Aviv Municipal Architect office competition “Public Discourse Space”.
